Atmosphere - When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold

The latest from Minneapolis hip hop duo Atmosphere combines old school rap philosophy with new school production value.  Lyrically, Atmosphere delves into more subdued and mature themes, and DJ Ant takes his beats to a more thoughtful, sophisticated, and, most notably, patient level.  This album isn't really geared towards hard-hitting or in your face beats.  The opener, "Like The Rest of Us", starts off with about a half-minute long music box intro followed by an ethereal, listless, almost Bill Evansish piano riff as they launch into a story.  Despite their intermittent appearance in the album, several of the heavier tracks, "The Skinny" being among the most heavy-hitting and memorable, take Atmosphere's angrier style into more modern territory, incorporating dirty synths and gnarled samples into the beats.  Expect a lot of real instruments, jazzy beats, mellow flow, and gorgeous, impeccable production from this one.
