Medeski, Scofield, Martin, and Wood - Out Louder

Space jazz-fusion trio Medeski, Martin, and Wood have teamed up with the legendary John Scofield (guitar) for this raging prog/fusion record.  If you know MMW, you know they're known for their totally "space-jazz" minimalist compositions.  This record takes the trio in a different direction though.  It's much more composed than many of their early records and certainly much more so than John Scofield's "A Go Go", which features the MMW trio as guest artists.  Released on MMW's label, Indirecto Records, this is the first actual Medeski, Scofield, Martin, and Wood collaborative album.  It shows.  MMW is able to pull Scofield into a more organic style.  Likewise, Scofield's playing inspires some amazing accompanying keyboard parts out of Medeski's massive rig, which he uses to its full sonic potential on this album.    They sound like a band that has been jamming for years and is comfortable in many different genres.  They even throw in a cover of the Beatle's "Julia" and  stretch the composition's harmonic and melodic ideas in both beautiful and innovative ways.  This is a great album and, of course, features incredible playing by all parties involved.
